New Record For The Largest EV Parade

Five years ago finding two electric cars at a single event was as common as finding a four leaf clover. Last week in Cupertino, California, though, over 500 electric vehicles gathered to set a new record for the Guinness Book of World Records for the world’s largest EV parade, a great way to cap off National Drive Electric Week.

All told, 507 pure electric vehicles (no plug-in hybrids allowed!) came together at the behest of the the San Francisco Bay Leafs and the Electric Auto Association Silicon Valley chapter. According to Plug-In America, which participated along with the Sierra Club and the Electric Auto Association, the gathering included a veritable who’s who of electric cars. Naturally there were a number of Nissan LEAF and Tesla Model S sedans in attendance, but California is home to over 100,000 plug-in vehicles, more than any other state.

This saw cars like the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Smart ForTwo Electric Drive, and BMW i3 in attendance as well, as well as a number of two-wheeled electric vehicles including a few Zero and even a Lightning electric motorcycle. The new record beats out the 481 EVs that gathered in Stuttgart, Germany earlier this year, and now the race is on to be the first gathering of 1,000+ electric cars. Which continent will lay claim to this unique record of zero emissions vehicles?
