AC LED Modules Operate Directly from 120Vac

American Bright Optoelectronics Corp.offers ac-compatible LED solutions capable of producing up to 86lm/W without the need for external ac-dc conversion. The second-generation GoldenEye implements American Bright’s patented SimpleDrive® technology that eliminates the need for capacitors, resistors and chokes and allows users to connect the module directly to 120Vac line voltages. Third party independent testing (LM84) confirms that the new device will exceed the minimum life and stability requirements set forth by both Energy Star and the Design Lights Consortium (DLC). The 30x30mm package, barely larger than a US Quarter, draws less than 10W while maintaining a high efficacy of greater than 80 lumens per watt (lm/W). The redesigning of current light fixtures such as table lamps, task lamps, replacement lamps (A19, PAR, etc.), chandeliers, wall sconces or ceiling fixtures has become simple and cost effective with this state-of-the-art LED solution.

For added versatility, ease of assembly and lower labor costs, the Golden Eye light engine is available as a module as well. The module version incorporates an industry standard “poke-in” style connector to attach mains ac power. Measuring only 40mm x 30mm the module easily can be incorporated into most standard fixtures with little to no modification, making the Golden Eye a true “plug-and-play”, no compromise, solution for solid state lighting.

The family of ac light engines is readily available in standards compliant ANSI color bins from warm white (2700K CCT) to neutral white (4000K CCT) color temperatures. A high CRI of greater than 85 is available in all lighting class color temperatures. The inherent efficiency of an ac-direct design allows for a high power factor greater than 0.9 with no additional power conditioning or power factor correction circuitry required. An additional benefit of the AC SimpleDrive® configuration is the full range dimmability. Compatibility with many Lutron and Leviton dimmers has been confirmed through independent testing.

“With this current advancement we have bridged the cost performance gap that currently existed within LED technology,” George Lee, President of American Bright Optoelectronics Corp., noted. “The GoldenEye allows for a simple, cost effective means of producing LED versions of the most commonly used fixtures,” Lee added. “The low solutions cost and reliability of our AC LED takes down the last remaining barriers to LED conversions for most fixture manufacturers,” he concluded.
