From February of 2020, Neware will officially upgrade dual range 5V10mA/50mA/6A/12A these 4 models to triple range models.
Same dimension, same price, better performance!!

Triple range significantly improved the accuracy of Neware BTS4000 series battery testers, and more importantly, it made CVD(constant voltage discharge) function come into reality. Meanwhile, it also helps customers to save cost. Currently there are 5V10mA/50mA/6A/12A available, more models on the way.

As the battery technology developing, modern battery cell has higher voltage and more importantly has more capacity and higher capacity-density, it makes the same size pouch or cylindrical container contains more energy.
Many of our customers began to need the higher current battery testers, 6A for somehow is not enough to charge and discharge their battery cells, especially for high C-Rate discharge.
That’s why from year 2016 Neware started to research and build the brand new 12A battery testers for cells.
And we successfully launched this dual range 5V12A battery tester in 2017 summer, new connector socket and cabinet box design. Some of our customers have already tried out this 5V12A tester and they are pretty happen with the performance of it.

Constant voltage discharge on dual range Neware BTS4000

Constant voltage discharge data and plot.Generally, the voltage of battery goes lower and lower as the battery discharge goes on. But for research or other purposes, some customers need to maintain the battery voltage at a certain level while it’s discharging. This is a function called ‘CV discharge or constant voltage discharge’.
For the old Neware BTS4000, there’s not this function. But Neware developing team successfully made this function come into reality from year 2016, and after a period of tryout, it’s proven that this function can be open to all customers.
From the above plot you can tell while the battery is discharging, the voltage of the battery stays rather stable, while the discharging current becomes smaller and smaller.
You can download the testing result file and open it with tool BTSDA to have a closer look and analysis.

Quick question: accuracy and current range switch of dual range Neware BTS4000

Some customers might get confused by the dual range current output of Neware BTS4000.
Let’s take BTS4000-5V10mA as an example. It have 2 current output ranges: 5uA-1mA; 1mA-10mA.
Since the accuracy of Neware BTS4000 low power testers is 0.05%FS, then what’s the real current output value and tolerance of 5V10mA with 2 output ranges?
That’s easy.
When in the 1mA range, tolerance is 1mA*0.05/100=0.5uA, so the first actual current output range of 5V10mA(1mA range) is 5uA±0.5uA to 1mA±0.5uA.
When in the 10mA range, tolerance is 10mA*0.05/100=5uA, so the second actual current output range of 5V10mA(10mA range) is 1mA±5uA to 10mA±5uA.
So if you input 1mA, the actual current output range will be 1mA-0.5uA to 1mA+0.5uA. If you input 1.5mA, the actual current output range will be 1.5mA-5uA to 1.5mA+5uA.
By using the similar calculation method, we can get the actual output ranges of 5V50mA and 5V6A testers:

Model Output range 1 ± tolerance Output range 2 ± tolerance
5V10mA (5uA~1mA) ± 0.5uA (1mA~10mA) ± 5uA
5V50mA (25uA~5mA) ± 2.5uA (5mA~50mA) ± 25uA
5V6A (500uA~100mA) ± 50uA (100mA~6A) ± 3mA
5V12A (5mA~1A) ± 0.5mA (1A~12A) ± 6mA

Is there a button or a software setting which I can use to switch the output range manually when I’m using the dual range Neware BTS4000?
Some customers would ask this question the first time they start to use dual range Neware BTS4000.
The answer to this questions is ‘No, there’s no need for you to switch the output range manually, it will be switched automatically.
Let’s take BTS4000-5V50mA for example, when you use 4mA on it, the output range of it is the 1st range 5mA, the actual output value would be 4mA-2.5uA to 4mA+2.5uA. And when you use 40mA on it, the output range of it is the 2nd range 50mA, the actual output value would be 40mA-25uA to 40mA+25uA.
The only problem is that you need to modify the BTS.ini file before you use the dual range testers. Please refer to the following instruction.
Open BTS.ini file and locate the [STEPCHECKMODE] segment in this configuration file.
[STEPCHECKMODE]
mode = 1 ;
If you are using the newest Neware dual range testers, change this mode value from 1 to 0, save BTS.ini and restart BTS client, then you can input lower value than 0.2% of the tester range. For example, if you are using 5V6A tester and din’t change the above setting, then the minimum current you can input in the BTS client software will be 12mA(0.2% of 6A). But once you made above tweak, then you really unleash the power of the dual range, minimum current will be 500uA.
Don’t know how to do the change? Just download this BTS.ini and replace the one on your computer.

Another benefit from dual or triple range: High C-Rate Test

Since there’s no need to manually switch the output range of the dual/tripe range Neware testers, can you image what another benefit we can get from this? You might have already figured it out, now you can do the 1C rate test up to 5C or even 10C rate test in one single test! That’s really great for you to tell the standard performance and high C-rate performance of the battery you are studying in an easier way, right?

Dual range makes it possible for you to test a battery from very low C-rate to high C-rate.

Dual/triple range makes it possible for you to test a battery from very low C-rate to high C-rate.

Let’s say you are working with a 500mAh battery, from about screen-shot you can tell no matter you want to test the battery at 0.01C or up to 5C even 10C, a Neware BTS4000-5V6A is enough, it covers all the output requirements. It’s even better than you use a combination of the old single output range model 5V5mA and 5V6A, cause you have to move the battery from one tester to another between the combination. And the price of a single new dual/triple range 5V6A is surely lower than the combination of a single output range 5V5mA plus a single output range 5V6A.

How to manually choose specific output range?

For Neware dual/triple range testers, the current output range will switch automacitally according to the current you set up in sofware. While some customers really want to control everything manually, they want to know how to choose the specific output range manually in the software, here’s how.
Range choosing is only available in Neware BTS software professional mode, please refer to the following screenshot, and check the ‘range’ checkbox, then you can choose between ranges of the tester.
