Some Chinese Tesla Model S owners are taking a big road trip using China’s still-nascent charging network. Actually, they will be installing charging stations along the way.
This article about it is in Chinese if you happen to read Chinese. Hopeless with Chinese, I stuck it into Google Translate. Unfortunately, that doesn’t make the read much easier. As an example, here’s the summary line at the top of the article:
We had started! The next 10 days, PingWest will broadcast live Tesla Model S in Xining, Black River, Sabina, Zhangye, Jiayuguan, Dunhuang, Golmud, Amdo, Nagqu, Lhasa when the male until the “green corridor” laying trip.
Well, yeah, I guess we can gather that these guys are going on a Model S road trip.
Furthermore, the next line makes it clear (I think) that one of the Model S owners is going to be installing charging stations on the trip (maybe this guy?) and wanted some company:
Half months ago I received a Tesla China’s invitation: Henry, one called Neo’s Tesla owners want a car crossing the line of the Silk Road, he will install charging while driving along the piles. If we provide a car, do you want with me?
Other things that I think I gleaned from the translation are: there will be beautiful scenery along the way; they may have to eat instant noodles for a few days on stretches with no shops or restaurants; a lot of people think one guy was the first to make the trip from Beijing to Guangzhou in a Model S, but it was apparently another guy, who is also going on this road trip and putting chargers up along the way; and perhaps my favorite: a map of China, charging stations and routes connecting them, and their route is imprinted on the hoods of their Model S’s.
