Microsemi Corporation announced a unique new series of patented, ultra-low capacitance power transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode products. Leveraging the company’s 50-year heritage in high-reliability TVS technology and its unique radio frequency (RF) PIN diode expertise, the new devices provide protection of high speed data lines and other applications where the threat requirement’s magnitude greatly surpasses the capability of other typical low capacitance TVS devices for Ethernet protection and other data interfaces with speeds up to 500 megabits per second (Mbit/s).
The new 1N8149 to 1N8182 and 1N8149US to 1N8182US surface mount low capacitance TVS diode products are available as 150W peak pulse power at 10/1,000 microseconds with very low capacitance of only 4pF maximum. The 150W TVS diodes equate to greater than 1,000W at 8/20 microseconds and are offered in voltages ranging from 6.8V to 170V. They also comply with high-end industrial and avionics ESD, electrical fast transient (EFT) and lower level lightning threats in accordance with IEC61000-4-2, IEC61000-4-5 and RTCA-DO160 specifications. Higher power ratings of 500W at 10/1,000 microseconds with low capacitance are in development for even higher transient threats.
1N8149 to 1N8182 and 1N8149US to 1N8182US surface mount TVS series key features include: 150W peak pulse power at 10/1000 microseconds; 1,000W peak pulse at 8/20 microseconds; Capacitance: under 4 pF; Screening to JANTXV per MIL-PRF-19500 available; Breakdown voltages: from 6.8V to 170V; Finish is ROHS e3 and non e3; and these devices are Halogen-free. Microsemi’s 150W series of low-capacitance TVS diodes are available for all screening levels and are housed in void-less hermetically-sealed axial and surface mount glass packages.
