Medical 100W 2 x 4 Power Supplies have Long Capacitor Life

TDK Corporation announced the introduction of TDK-Lambda’s ZMS100 2″ x 4″ medical and ITE certified power supplies. Designed to provide long field life in hospital, clinical, dental and home based medical applications as well as professional broadcast, test, measurement and audio equipment, the ZMS100 series can operate with or without forced air cooling. Meticulous design has maximized electrolytic capacitor lifetime, reducing output capacitor ripple current (which causes internal heating) and ensuring good airflow around components. Furthermore, a long-life ceramic is used as the start-up capacitor, eliminating the commonly used electrolytic type – a known failure point in the industry.

Carrying a 3-year warranty, the TDK-Lambda ZMS100 is currently available with 12V, 15V, 24V, 36V or 48V outputs, with a planned 28V model to be launched in early 2015. User adjustment of -5/+10% accommodates non-standard voltages. The series can reliably provide up to 80W output power convection cooled, or 100W with just 0.7m/s airflow at 50 degrees C ambient (70 degrees C maximum with appropriate de-rating).

The supplies operate from a universal input of 85- to 264-Vac, have EN61000-3-2 compliance and are suitable for Class I or Class II (no ground connection) applications. Typical efficiencies are 90%, and with an average efficiency rating of 87%, the ZMS100 meets ErP guidelines. Off load power consumption is less than 0.5W.

The ZMS100 conforms to the new IEC60601-1 3rd edition medical standard with 4kVac input to output isolation (2 x MOPPs) and 1.5kVac (1 x MOPP) between input to ground and output to ground. Touch current is less than 100μA. The series has also been certified to ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1, EN60601-1, IEC/EN/UL60950-1 and carries the CE mark according to the LV and RoHS2 Directives. All models meet EN55011-B, FCC Class B conducted emissions and EN60601-1-2 immunity standards.
