Ultra-miniature LDOs provide 300mA Output Current

Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) has announced a family of ultra-miniature CMOS low drop-out voltage regulators (LDOs) with a 300mA driving capability. The new TCR3DM family offers an output voltage range of 1.0V to 4.5V with the possibility to specify the fixed output voltage in steps of 50mV. The highly-integrated devices are designed for use in smartphones, tablet PCs and other portable, battery operated devices that require low power consumption, high performance and minimum PCB space.

Despite the small size, typical drop out voltages are only 210mV (at an output voltage and current of 2.5V and 300mA). In addition to an output noise voltage of 38μVrms (typical at 2.5V output, Iout=10mA), the LDOs also offer high ripple rejection (R.R.) of 70dB (typical). A load transient response of only 80mV (typical) for output current changes between 1 and 300mA further contributes to the excellent performance of this series.

Other integrated features are inrush current protection, overcurrent protection, thermal shutdown protection and a built in output auto-discharge function, which in total will lead to an optimized system performance with respect to noise and battery lifetime as well as a reduced demand for external components.

The TCR3DM voltage regulators are available in a small DFN4 package that measures just 1.0mm x 1.0mm x 0.58mm. Furthermore this 300mA regulator is also available as TCR3DF family in a general purpose SOT-25 package that makes this LDO also suitable for standard industrial and consumer applications.
