Still. That’s a pretty amazing price tag — one that’s due to large national and local government incentives. Said incentives, of course, are designed to cause a rapid shift in the number of electric as compared to gas-powered cars on the road in the country.
Those interested in an EV better suited to business purposes can get a similarly good deal on the Nissan e-NV200 Visia Flex — which you can pick up there for the very low price of €4,950 ($6,400).
In addition, buyers also get 1 year of free parking in the city center, and further subsidies of up to €1,450 with the installation a home charger system utilizing green electricity.
“By scrapping older vehicles and incentivizing buyers to replace them with zero-emission electric vehicles, Rotterdam is taking a huge step in improving air quality. Vehicles like Nissan e-NV200 and Nissan LEAF are ideal for city-based fleets as well as for private motorists who want to make a difference to the quality of life in their home town,” stated Jordi Vila, Managing Director Nissan Netherlands.

But to take advantage of the huge discounts, buyers need to hurry. Rotterdam’s scrappage subsidy is only available to the first 5,000 applicants and orders need to have been placed before December with deliveries by the end of the year.
With EU governments establishing clear deployment goals for EVs, sales in Europe are expected to increase rapidly over the next 12 months. Figures for 2013 surpassed 45,000 registrations (including 11,120 LEAFs) and are forecast to rise to 400,000 by 2015, representing around 3.5% of new passenger car registrations2.
