Ever try an e-bike? Now’s your chance

Bike Bistro has introduced two lines of electric bicycles – Felt and BionX, for those who want to electrify their ride.

An electric bicycle is a pedal bike with an integrated electric motor to boost propulsion. While there is a great variety of e-bikes, all retain the ability to be pedalled and therefore are not classified as electric motorcycles or scooters.

“The BionX e-bike systems make it easy to turn nearly any bicycles into a powerful and efficient electric bike,” said Bike Bistro Owner Steve Martin. “The goal is to get more people to consider leaving the car at home, so these systems help you do more on your bicycle than you ever thought possible.”

BionX e-bike technology is intuitive and easy to use. Adding only a few kilograms to the bicycle, the BionX system works seamlessly as you pedal.

The control processor continuously analyzes torque input and feeds that information to the motor, which applies electric assist in proportion to how hard you are pedaling. The harder you pedal, the more torque the system senses, and the more electric assist you get. The power is seamlessly applied and never distracting, so you can just enjoy the ride.

“The BionX Lithium batteries offer you the electric boost when you need it, while still giving you all of the exercise benefits of a bicycle,” Martin said.

A single battery charge can provide up to 65 miles of assisted riding. The lightweight battery can be installed and removed in a matter of seconds, making it convenient to recharge. All BionX 48-volt batteries are now equipped with a “Deep Sleep” function, which acts as a method of preservation. It enables shelf life of up to 18 months for fully-charged battery.

The Felt Line

Felt, a company dedicated to technological innovation and unmatched quality, has expanded its electric bike line to the United States in four models: Lebowsk-e, Dual-e, Nine-e and the lifestyle Sport-e.

The Lebowsk-e, Felt’s fat tire electric bike, won Best in Show by Outside Magazine at Interbike. This rugged bike can ride in almost any terrain and is available in three sizes – small, medium and large. The Dual-e is a full-suspension 29-inc mountain bike, capable of handling even the roughest trails.

Felt’s Sport-e is designed in both a traditional and a step-through model. This all purpose electric bike is perfect for commuting and running errands, and is available in five men’s and two women’s sizes. All Felt Electric bikes are proprietary designs and fully equipped with Bosch’s mid-drive motor and battery pack, which can assist up to 20 miles-per-hour.

“With the rising popularity of e-bikes throughout Europe, and with soaring gas prices and people wanting to be more active, the Felt Electric bike series is the perfect transportation or exercise alternative,” Martin said.

Felt Bicycles President Bill Duehring says the company has been selling Bosch powered e-bike for the past three years in Europe. “We feel Bosch’s reputation and quality products make them the perfect partner for our bicycles.”
