True-Digital PWM Controller with Integrated Power Stage Driver

ZMD AG (ZMDI) today announces the release of the ZSPM2000, a configurable true digital PWM controller with integrated MOSFET driver for smart digital point-of-load (POL) solutions. ZMDI’s ZSPM2000 operates as a synchronous step-down converter in a single-rail, single-phase configuration. ZMDI’s Tru-Sample Technology™ and State-Law Control™ algorithms ensure best-in-class transient performance and excellent steady-state behavior. With its integrated power-stage driver, the ZSPM2000 is ideal for use in area-constrained, high-performance applications, such as servers, storage units, base stations, FPGA boards and telecommunication equipment. Digital communication and control are available via the PMBus™ interface, and ZMDI’s Pink Power Designer™ easy-to-use software enables users to quickly optimize their designs.

“The ZSPM2000 True Digital PWM Controller with Integrated MOSFET Driver is one of the smallest solutions available in the market. Designers select application-targeted power MOSFETs and combine them with our ZSPM2000 to produce a superior high-performance point-of-load solution with an extremely small footprint,” said Ed Lam, Vice President of the Power Management business line at ZMDI. “Our digital control techniques, including Tru-Sample Technology™, State-Law Control™ and Sub-cycle Response™, provide designers with a high-performance solution in an ultra-small 4mm x 4mm package. The Pink Power Designer™ design optimizer software helps power engineers explore design trade-offs such as cost and size. Our goal is to make it easy for our customers to build optimal POL solutions quickly and at the lowest possible system cost.”

ZSPM2000 features include: True-digital PWM controller with integrated high-performance MOSFET driver; Advanced digital-control algorithms for maximum flexibility, excellent transient performance, reduced settling time, minimum jitter and low-noise steady state; Adaptive anti-cross-conduction and power saving features for low switching losses and maximum efficiency; Extensive fault monitoring and error handling; Digital communication for telemetry, control and configuration; Optional PMBus™ interface; and Ultra-small 4mm x 4mm QFN package.
