UPSs feature UL 508 Listing and Wide Temperature Rating

Falcon Electric, Inc. has announced the expansion of its SSG Series Industrial UPS product line. The SSG rackmount and tower family now spans power levels from 1kVA to 6kVA that address a broad range of demanding industrial and process control applications. Like Falcon’s other SSG models, the 4 to 6kVA units are rugged, rackmount on-line uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) that carry UL 1778, UL 508, cUL listings and CE certification. These certifications assure reliable, code- compliant operation over a wide -20 to 55 degrees C (-4 to 131 degrees F) temperature range.

Designed from the ground-up for rugged industrial applications, the SSG is one claimed to be one of the most robust and reliable single-phase, on-line, double-conversion UPSs on the market. It is specifically designed to provide industrial-grade power to equipment deployed in harsh environmental conditions such as oil and gas, process control, wastewater treatment, chemical production, as well as bridges and tollways.

“Our SSG products are protecting critical industrial applications located in wide-temperature environments throughout the world. Providing continuous, regulated sinewave power to PLC, SCADA, network and a multitude of other types of power-sensitive equipment is paramount to continuous process uptime,” said Michael A. Stout, vice president of engineering for Falcon Electric. “Our SSG models have demonstrated an exceptionally high level of reliability. Moreover, achieving the UL 508 safety standard listing is significant, as it simplifies industrial control panel code compliance requirements that other UPSs having only a UL1778 Listing cannot meet. The combination of UL 508 and wide-temperature rating gives our customers a unique solution not offered by other commercial (non-industrial grade) UPS products on the market.”

The SSG family also features hot-swappable 10-year rated backup batteries when installed in a 25 degrees C (77 degrees F) environment. With double the average UPS battery life, this advancement reduces battery replacement and cost. When installed in an extreme 50 degrees C (122 degrees F) location, projected battery life is four years, resulting in one-quarter the maintenance cost. For long duration power outages, the SSG, due to its continuous duty inverter design, accommodates high capacity external battery banks, providing hours of battery backup time.

The SSG UPS Series offers numerous options, such as NEMA-rated enclosures, conformal coating and frequency conversion. Power management software and Remote Emergency Power Off (REPO) are standard features.
