Polymer

A polymer is a large molecule composed of many repeated subunits, known as monomers. Because of their broad range of properties,[4] both synthetic and natural polymers play an essential and ubiquitous role in everyday life.

Strictly, polymer is a substance made of long repeating chains of molecules called monomers which may be identical or different.

The term polymer is often used in place of plastic, rubber or elastomer.

In battery technology, “polymer” usually refers to a solid (plastic) ionic conductor that is an electrical insulator but passes ions.
